HONOURING THE ELDERLY

Do you remember to greet every single person in the room when visitor come?  I have been convicted of this recently.  Do you introduce them to each other?  I have  been convicted of that too.  Sometimes we get busy and assume everyone knows everyone or just leave it up to them to get aquainted.  Here is a good one..  Do you acknowledge, say hello to and offer to introduce the elderly to others in the room?  It is true that some of us ignore other and some of us have been ignored but the elderly generation experiences this so much more that we do. They seem to get forgotten - a lot.  Do you assist them with doors and grocery carts and things that are tiresome and difficult for them? These and more are all signs and actions of respect.

Do you ask them if the music is too loud for them and help them to find a solution?   Elders know a lot about life and the world out there; they have a lot to share - a lot of wisdom.  If by chance you don't agree with their views, honour them anyhow and give them credit for thier experiences.  When we show them respect with a hug; pat on the shoulder; luncheon date etc  it expresses our respect for them.  Showing consideratoin to the elderly marks your character and when you make them feel cared for -- someone cares about them-- they will automatically respond with affection and kindness. ~
Job 12:12-"Wisdom is with aged men, With long life is understanding.

Psalm 71:18- And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Thy strength to this generation, Thy power to all who are to come.

  1. I'm as guilty as most in this scenerio. It's too easy to forget and make the assumption that since I know you and you know me then everyone here must know of everyone else. I'm learning that assumptions are not always a good thing and that to assume isn't very smart at the best of times. thanks for this message Sharon, 'preciate it muchly
